Why we love Anavy’s Newborn Wool Nappy Cover
Anavy’s wool cover has hems and an inner layer of 100% virgin wool with an outer decorative layer of 95% cotton and 5% elastane. Wool is natural and incredibly breathable. Wool absorbs any leaks from the nappy underneath which are then neutralised by the natural lanolin in the wool. If the cover gets damp, then just hang it out to dry. Wool has natural self-cleaning abilities which leave the cover hygienically clean. If they become soiled or start leaking, then you will need to wash and relanolise as below. Wool covers are sold unlanolised. Please lanolise before first use to waterproof the wool or they will not work. We recommend doing this three times before use to create a great “barrier” but, to be honest, most people don’t. You will need to repeat about once a month. Full details below.
How to use
Wool covers can be used over any absorbant nappy- muslin square, prefold or a fitted nappy. The best combination is with a nappy that fits well around the legs thus preventing the delicate wool from being soiled.
The cover fits all babies from newborn to around 14lbs and can be adjusted with rise snaps to reduce the length.
Care must be taken when washing wool. Hand or machine wash on a 30C wool programme but never a hotter wash. Gently stir and squeeze. Rinse using water at the same temperature, otherwise your wool will be subjected to “shock” and might felt up, so 30C again. DO NOT: Don’t wring, soak, brush or rub vigorously as the wool fibres may be damaged and your garment may felt up and shrink. Just squeeze the water through. To dry, gently squeeze water out and wrap your wool clothes in a towel to remove the excess water. Air-dry naturally avoiding direct heat. So, hanging on a drying rack over the bath is good, or on a clothes horse, or flat on a dry towel. Re-shape while damp.
